The Highlights: more rest, reunion with trail friends

We spent another full day in Wrightwood, resting my feet some more before we hit the trail again tomorrow.

After a delish breakfast at the Grizzly Cafe, we picked up a box with new shoes for me at the Post Office (fingers crossed these will help), and spent some time at a local coffee shop chatting with other hikers. Later we resupplied at the grocery store. New dinner I’m trying out on this stretch: Stovetop Stuffing. Exciting, I know. Don’t be jealous.

A license plate mural outside the antique shop.

One nice thing about staying in town a couple days is some of our friends a couple days back caught up today so it was nice to see familiar faces!

Clockwise from left: me (Butters), Dead Zone, LOL, Squishy, “just Josh” (no trail name yet), and Hot Mess

For dinner it seemed pretty much everyone in town descended upon the Yodeler for their Monday night tacos. (Guess they didn’t get the memo that Tuesday is supposed to be taco night). Dead Zone (from the UK), had her FIRST ever tacos. Living under a rock across the pond… She assures us they have Mexican food, she just hasn’t eaten it. Too content with fish n’ chips.

LOL single-handedly takes on a family sized taco salad.

Leaving Big Bear Lake, the trail took a sharp left and we’ve been heading west. Not exactly the most direct route to Canada.

If I don’t unfold too much of this map, it looks like we are making progress.

Wrightwood is a little over halfway through this due west section, and by our next stop in Agua Dulce we’ll be headed north again, which will feel a bit more like progress! Tomorrow it’s back to the trail, this will also feel like progress! Over half way through the desert!
